molten sea
Made by Solomon (1 Kgs. 7:23, AV; also called ‘brasen sea’, 1 Chron. 18:8, AV; ‘bronze sea’, NRSV, REB, NJB) and used for the priest of the Temple to wash himself and the vessels before entering the holy place. It stood on twelve oxen of bronze; and it was broken in pieces and carried to Babylon in 586 BCE.
